I'm Not A Tourist Attraction

Human trafficking is a world wide human injustice where heinous sexual crimes are committed against young children from all walks of life. Some children, mostly girls, are as young as five years old. This painting was created to raise awareness about the devastating dehumanization currently happening in the world today.

The work tells a story 'Manga' style; each box representing a portion of the tale. It is my sincere hope that it will move people to action.

Teresa Carter follows the tradition of narrative painting, utilizing the human form as the central focal point. The inspiration for the 'stories' on canvas flows from the great themes of life—hope and joy, tragedy and despair and the soul's spiritual journey.

Teresa attended The Atlanta College of Art 1981-1982 and graduated from Austin Peay State University in 1989 with a BFA in Painting. She attended the Contemporary Realist Academy in 1999 and trained under the instruction of Kate Manzo. From 2001 to 2003 she was the art director for The Stirring, a contemporary worship service at Hope Presbyterian that incorporated art into the worship service. Her latest show raised awareness for Human Trafficking and Slavery.
