Federal Minister of Labour Andre Ouellet recently announced a new three-year program intended to improve the relationship between organized labour and the federal government.
Dubbed the "Labour-Government Secondment Program" and allocated $1.9-million to cover salaries and expenses, the plan will permit the exchange of staff between trade unions and the government. Said Mr. Ouellet: "We hope to create, over time, a small but significant cadre of public servants and trade union officials who have detailed knowledge and experience of the kind that can only be gained by working for a time in the other's environment."
