Acrylic and Ink on Tracing Paper
2009
"Static" is a piece of documentation. When considering a particular place, my mind is inundated with remembered experiences and emotions. I created a painting of this mental landscape. As I considered my childhood home, I began to paint "backwards" on the reverse side of the semi-transparent paper. I layered color on the backside of the paper while, on the front side of the paper, I drew in ink a basic and hesitant framework for this mental environment. I have thus documented what was formerly intangible, a brief but loaded memory.
