Bead work and embroidery on canvas, mounted on wood
10 1/2" x 8"
This is part of my ongoing series of beaded interpretations of icons of the Madonna and Christ. It is based on the icon of the Kykkos Monastery on Cyprus, Mother of God Kykkotissa, Simon Ushakov, 1668. I am drawn to the beauty and tenderness of maternal love which is selfless and unconditional. My pieces are small and intimate and meant to speak to the individual and offer time and space for prayer and silence.
