Nelson Kloosterman

Dr. Nelson D. Kloosterman is married, father of five, and grandfather of eleven. Ordained to the gospel ministry in 1975, he has been associated since 1981 with Mid-America Reformed Seminary (Dyer, Indiana), currently teaching courses in the areas of Ethics, New Testament Studies, Homiletics, and Church Polity. He is a minister among the United Reformed Churches. He obtained a B.A. in Greek from Calvin College (Grand Rapids, Michigan) in 1972, and a B.D. from Calvin Theological Seminary (Grand Rapids, Michigan) in 1975.

From 1975-1978, Dr. Kloosterman served as pastor of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church, Marion, SD; from 1978-1982, he served the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, Sheldon, IA; and since 1995 he has served as Associate Minister of the Community United Reformed Church, Schererville, IN.

After obtaining a B.D. in 1975 from Calvin Theological Seminary, in 1991 he obtained his Th.D. from the Theological University of the Reformed Churches (liberated) in Kampen, the Netherlands, with a dissertation on Scandalum Infirmorum et Communio Sanctorum: The Relation between Christian Liberty and Neighbor Love in the Church. In addition to co-editing and writing numerous articles for the Mid-America Journal of Theology, and writing for various church magazines, Dr. Kloosterman has translated and published several books, including The Ten Commandments: Manual for the Christian Life, and Responsible Conduct: Principles of Christian Ethics, by J. Douma; Preaching and the History of Salvation, by C. Trimp; and Saved By Grace: The Holy Spirit's Work in Calling and Regeneration, by Herman Bavinck.

Areas of interest in writing and speaking include Christian medical ethics (beginning of life and end of life decisions), Christian business ethics, and the relationship between Christianity and culture in general. Personal hobbies include geocaching, chess, and motorcycling.
