Mixed Media Collage on Paper
The bottom portion of Time as a Painter is composed of layers and layers of painted and found papers like sediment building up and worn down over time. The top portion has been painted- whitewashed, and yet still shows the texture from the accumulation of paint beneath. The layers are all still there. I’ve glued in the sky a typed quotation from TS Eliot’s poem, “Burnt Norton,” which hints at the meaning:
Time present and time past
Are both perhaps present in time future,
And time future contained in time past.
If all time is eternally present
All time is unredeemable.
