Unfinished Basement

December 4 th 2009

My never-ending quest to take the perfect photograph gets me up early on many a Saturday morning. On this particular morning, I was driving by an old farmhouse that was being moved to another location to make room for a new subdivision. As I was setting up, the sunlight was just raking the tire tracks that were left in the dried mud leading up to the house. The detail that makes the photo work for me is the sliver of sky that's visible between the ground and the house. To get that, I placed my camera just off the ground, which exaggerates the foreground detail and helps lead the eye into the frame.
