Several years ago, Comment magazine began a trial in publishing on iPad devices to keep up with changing reading habits in the digital world. But due to several developments in the landscape we are bringing this trial to an end in the hopes of continuing to steward our resources wisely and to better serve our readers.
At the time Comment began its iPad issues, tablets were relatively new and most of the market—especially the publishing app market—had to go through Apple and the iPad. These are great products, but one of the problems we ran into was the need to work through intermediaries in order to reach you, our iPad reader.
Today, however, the landscape is altered thanks to innovation, free markets, and competition. (As you know, all things we give two cheers for here at Comment!)
Given these changes, it is no longer necessary to go through Apple and their attendant iPad apps to have a quality online reading experience. To this end, our team has invested heavily in revamping the Comment website which can be read across platforms with ease. As we did with the iPad version you have come to love, so we have done with our website: we have taken the aesthetics of the Print version and translated them into a digital format that is a pleasure to read. If you have not visited the Comment website in a while, we hope you’ll take some time to browse through it.
Given that this change affects you, we would like to offer you TWO free years of digital subscription ($0.99/month = $24 value) which you may unsubscribe from at any point. As you’ll notice, this will be significantly less than the iPad subscription rates upon auto-renewal and will bring you more easily into connection with the Comment editorial team going forward. We’re happy with this change and hope you will be too.
In order to receive your free digital subscription please contact us at Comment@Cardus.ca and we will take care of your request.
