David Sweet was elected as Member of Parliament for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale on January 23, 2006.
In Ottawa, David has served as Vice-chair of the Public Accounts Committee and currently serves as Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs, as member of the Subcommittee on International Human Rights and as member of the Liaison Subcommittee on Committee Budgets.
Prior to his election to Parliament, David ran his own business providing management consultancy and training services to a wide range of corporate, public and not-for-profit sector clients. David's leadership experience includes work as Vice President of Business Development for a Hamilton-based think tank from 2004 to 2006 and President of two national organizations prior to 2004. In the 1980's he spent a number years in real estate sales followed by a move to General Manager of one of the largest real estate franchise offices at that time in Canada.
In addition to his 25-year track record of business success, David was also a professional speaker and author, having helped found the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers and later serving as its President.
While his duties as M.P. take him to numerous community events on a weekly basis, David continues his involvement with the Ancaster Food Drive, Ancaster's spring clean-up campaign, the United Jewish Appeal walk, the Canadian Club of Hamilton and several other community organizations in the Hamilton area. He previously served on the task force of a local women's transition home and on a local school improvement committee.
David was a triathlete, participating in the North American long course in his birthplace of Kingston, Ontario. He continues to be an outdoor enthusiast who loves hiking and swimming. During breaks in the Parliamentary calendar, he makes time with his family to enjoy the splendor of the internationally acclaimed Dundas Valley trails.
David and his wife Almut live in Ancaster with their children.
