Join Dr. Xavier Gélinas, Curator of Political History at the Canadian Museum of History, for a look into the history of the War Measures Act.

Dr. Gélinas is co-curator of the Canadian Museum of History’s exhibition Lost Libertieswhich explores the question: What happens when personal freedoms come into conflict with national security?

The War Measures Act has had an enduring impact on Canada. Given that the Emergencies Act, which replaced the War Measures Act, was recently invoked, it has sparked many conversations about what it is (and isn’t) and its history.

This is a conversation you won’t get on Twitter! Sit down to hear from an expert on the topic and dive into a thoughtful perspective on this topic through a historical lens. Join us for wine, cheese, and ample conversation.
