Heidi Janz, PhD, is a core faculty member and associate adjunct professor with the John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre at the University of Alberta. Her areas of specialization include disability ethics, ableism, and end-of-life issues affecting people with disabilities. She has been actively advocating against the legal and societal acceptance of euthanasia and assisted suicide for disabled people since Robert Latimer murdered his daughter, Tracy, in 1994. Heidi served as chair of the Council of Canadians with Disabilities’ Ending-of-Life Ethics Committee from 2018 to 2022. In that capacity, she provided testimony to the parliamentary and senate committees studying Bill C-7. Heidi lives in Edmonton, where, thanks to a unique cooperative member-run homecare model, she lives in her own condo with her cat, Awkward.
