Doors Open 2026 at the Chedoke Estate

Date: May 2, 2026

Time: 10:00am - 4:00pm

Location: 1 Balfour Drive, Hamilton, Ontario

In Person

It’s that time of year again! Doors Open is quickly approaching, and once again, the Chedoke Estate will be open for visitors. The best part? You’re invited.

The Chedoke Estate—today known as Balfour House—boasts a rich heritage dating back to its origins as an Iroquois settlement. Built by the Scottish immigrant and esteemed grain merchant William Scott Burn, Balfour House has witnessed the stewardship of several prominent Hamiltonians throughout its storied past, including railway magnate Charles John Brydges and the Southam family, founders of the Hamilton Spectator.

As part of Doors Open Hamilton 2026, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the artful interiors of the main house through guided tours or self-exploration. The charming elegance of this 19th-century estate extends to its grounds, which include original gardens and an orchard over a century old. Guests will enjoy the natural beauty of the estate, featuring picnic tables and a vast lawn space, with plenty of opportunity for play and relaxation.

Tours and exhibits this year will centre on the theme of music. We invite you to explore how music has been interwoven throughout the history of Hamilton and Chedoke, all while enjoying live music and the happy company of neighbours and friends.

Join us on this extraordinary journey through time, celebrating the legacy of the Balfour House and the indelible mark left by generations past. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this remarkable event and uncover the hidden treasures of Hamilton’s cultural heritage.
