Has Inequality Grown Since the Great Recession?

Inequality is a perennial issue in Canada, but it has come to the forefront now amidst new economic challenges. TV Ontario’s “The Agenda” explored the issue of inequality with a panel of three guests, including Brian Dijkema, President – Canada for Cardus. Brian brings a unique perspective to the discussion, suggesting that reducing poverty shouldn’t be a simple tug-of-war between the market and government. He challenges his fellow guests, Armine Yalnizyan and Kwame McKenzie, to pay attention to the host of institutions between those two extremes—families, schools, workplaces, faith communities—that have important roles to play in helping all people flourish. Brian also acknowledges there are challenges of inequality across Canada, particularly for the working class, which require structural change.
