The Conservatives’ Attack on Credentialism

As part of its plan to “fix the budget,” the federal Conservative platform promises to “eliminate university degree requirements for most federal public service roles to hire for skill, not credentials.” Renze Nauta, program director for work and economics at Cardus, supports this idea. He tells host Shaye Ganam on 880 CHED in Edmonton and QR Calgary in Calgary that too many many employers, including federal government departments, place more weight on university or college credentials in a job application than on that person’s actual ability to do the job.
