Peter Jon Mitchell is Director of the Family Program at Cardus.

Peter Jon has been researching and writing about Canadian families and public policy for nearly two decades. His current research interests include the challenges young adults face in forming families, and the relationship between public policy and children and their families. He co-authored the book, “I . . . Do? Why Marriage Still Matters”, and his articles have appeared in the National Post, Toronto Sun, and the Financial Post, among other publications. Peter Jon holds a ThM and MTS from Tyndale Seminary and a degree in history and political science from the University of Western Ontario.

Peter Jon’s research and writing reflect his prior hands-on experience working with youth. His early research focused on issues such as parental influence on youth risk behaviour, family involvement in the youth criminal justice process, and education. More recently, his work has included extensive research on child care policy, examining the implementation of the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care agreements in a multi-year Cardus project. He is frequently sought for comment on child care issues in Canadian and US media and has appeared before House of Commons and Senate committees.
