Rebecca Vachon
Program Director, Health
Rebecca brings to Cardus her passion for research and love of public policy in the service of promoting human dignity in Canada. After several years within the not-for-profit sector, Rebecca pursued and obtained her Ph.D. in Public Administration from the University of Ottawa. Her time at the University included a research focus on federal morality policy as well as teaching courses on public administration and public policy to undergraduates. Rebecca also holds an honours bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, with specialization in International Studies and Modern Languages.

Memo: Submission to AMAD Committee on Permanently Pausing the Expansion of MAiD for Mental Disorders
Cardus is writing this submission to AMAD to ask them to halt the expansion of MAiD to people with mental disorders as the sole underlying medical condition. The expansion would undermine suicide prevention efforts and exacerbate the vulnerability of particular groups such as First Nations or people with disabilities.

Mémoire: Concernant la suspension définitive de l’extension de l’AMM pour les troubles mentaux
Cardus adresse cette contribution à l'AMAD pour lui demander de suspendre l'extension de l'aide médicale à mourir aux personnes dont la seule affection médicale sous-jacente est un trouble mental. Cette extension compromettrait les efforts de prévention du suicide et aggraverait la vulnérabilité de certains groupes, tels que les Premières Nations ou les personnes handicapées.
